Mudvayne est un groupe de métal américain, qui a vu le jour en 1996, du côté de Peoria, dans l'état de l'Illinois. Il est formé de Kud (M. McDonough) au chant, Gurrg (G. Tribbett) à la guitare, Ryknow (Ryan Martinie) à la basse et de sPaG (C. Gray) à la batterie. Mudvayne commence donc à enchaîner les dates à travers le pays, acquérant l'expérience de la scène et accumulant les fans de gros sons. Rapidement, Mudvayne enregistre son premier album Kill I Oughta, une première livraison auto-produite, qui lui permet de décrocher un contrat chez Epic. Le quartet se met alors au travail, avec les producteurs Shawn N°6 Crahan (le clown percussionniste de Slipknot) et GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine avec Kittie et L7). Résultat des courses : L.D. 50, sort en octobre 2000 ; un album qui se définit entre le style déjanté de Slipknot etTool, célèbre groupe qui déchire aussi ! La galette sort juste après le début de la tournée qu'a entamé Mudvayne, en première partie de Slipknot. Fin 2001 le groupe distille un nouvel opus intitulé The Beginning Of All Things To End. L'année suivante, Mudvayne revient avec The End of All Things to Come.

Korn est fondé en 1992 à Bakersfield aux Etats-Unis. Les guitaristes James "Munky" Shaffer et Brian "Head" Welch, le bassiste Reginald "Fieldy Snuts" Arvizu et le batteur David Silveria font partie du groupe LAPD lorsqu'ils engagent le chanteur Jonathan Davis. Ils rebaptisent alors le groupe Korn. Leur premier album éponyme sort en 1994 et les ventes s'élèvent petit à petit grâce aux tournées en première partie de l'ex Black Sabbath Ozzy Osbourne, de Megadeth, de Marilyn Manson et de 311. Deux ans plus tard, Korn signe Life is peachy qui se classe numéro trois des classements pop américains. Le festival rock Lollapalooza lui propose d'être tête d'affiche mais le groupe se voit obliger de refuser, James Shaffer souffrant d'une méningite. En 1998, l'album Follow the leader paraît suivi, un an plus tard, de Issues. Korn fait un retour remarqué et attendu dans les bacs en 2002 avec Untouchables. L'année suivante, paraît Take a Look in the Mirror.
